Message from the Interim CEO

I’m honoured to serve as the interim CEO of Assisted Living Alberta (ALA), a new provincial agency created to better support Albertans with their continuing care needs. ALA represents an important step in the Government of Alberta’s commitment to building a more connected, compassionate, and people-focused health system.

For too long, Albertans have had to navigate complex and fragmented services. ALA will change that by integrating home care, continuing care, housing, and social supports—helping people access the care they need, when and where they need it.

As someone who has worked on the front lines of our care system for the past decade, I’ve seen firsthand how much this change is needed. Albertans deserve a system that is easier to navigate and truly centred on people and their families.

ALA officially launched on April 1, 2025 and my immediate focus is to operationalize ALA and lay the groundwork for its initial activities. As we build, we’re listening. Many of you have already shared your insights through surveys and engagement sessions, and more opportunities are coming across the province.

To Alberta’s care providers and partners: thank you. Your dedication and expertise are the foundation of this work. I look forward to continuing this journey together - toward a more seamless, supportive system for all Albertans.

Sincerely,

Dr. Sayeh Zielke, Interim CEO, Assisted Living Alberta
